For almost a decade, the Winston-Salem office has supported Cook Elementary School. Our primary focus is on the 4th and 5th grade students, but throughout the year a variety of activities are organized to support the entire school.

Highlights:

"Stories of Excellence" Lunches
Once a month we break out the fine china and host the 5th graders for lunch at the Firm. Special guest speakers have included Dean Morant of Wake Forest University Law School, Judge Denise Hartsfield, Skip Brown, President & CEO Tristone Community Bank and Kilpatrick Townsend Partner, Randy Eaddy. They all stress the importance of education, working hard, making good grades and staying in school.

UNC – Chapel Hill Field Trip
To help expose students to a college campus and the importance of higher education, 22 5th grade students traveled to Chapel Hill in the Fall and participated in a tour of the campus, visited the Morehead Planetarium to see the "Solar System Adventure" show and met with a Covenant Scholar at Wilson Library. The future Tarheels also ate lunch at the largest off-campus dormitory, visited UNC Law School, spent time with a current student and ended the day by visiting the UNC basketball museum at the Dean Dome.

4th Grade Essay Contest
The students were asked to write an essay comparing different regions of North Carolina and attorneys came to assist them with their essays. Awards were given for Best Overall, Best Researched, Most Descriptive and Most Original.

Backpack Challenge
For the past three years the Firm has provided backpacks full of school supplies to each of the 200 students at Cook to help them start the school year ready to learn.
